Abengoa, the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors, has been awarded 1st place at the FEM (The Federated Employers Mutual Assurance Company) annual 2022 Health and Safety Award of Excellence under the category “High Risk large Employer”.
FEM insures employers against their liabilities under the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act 1993 (COIDA) and has more than 5,000 policy holders, all of which participates in the FEM Annual Health & Safety Awards.
Factors that were assessed by FEM to determine the winners of the awards included:
1. Accident Frequency Rates.
2. Claims to Loss Ratio (Calculated proportionate to Policy Premiums).
3. Good Health and Safety Systems.
4. No Fatalities.
This important milestone, achieved by the team of this Geography, is the result of the great work and commitment shown by all the parties involved, from the top management to the staff walk floor.
Abengoa is operating two power plants in South Africa which have been designed and built by the company. One of them is Khi Solar One, the second solar thermal plant developed by Abengoa in South Africa and the first in Africa with tower and heliostats technolog. It is a 50 MW plant that uses concentrated solar power to generate renewable, sustainable and dispatchable power from the sun. The other plant is Xina Solar One, the third solar thermal plant developed by Abengoa in South Africa. It is a 100 MW plant that uses parabolic trough technology to generate renewable, sustainable and dispatchable power from the sun. Furthermore, this power plant features a thermal energy storage system that uses molten salts to store the necessary energy for a further 5½ hours supply, and thereby assists in meeting the South African peak demand.
