Abengoa qualifies for second year as a leading company in climate action

March 3, 2022

  • According to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)’s Supplier Engagement Rating (SER).
  • The company has once again obtained an A- rating for the second consecutive year, demonstrating that Abengoa's sustainability values are higher than the global average.

Abengoa, the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors, has obtained an A- rating for the second consecutive year in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)’s Supplier Engagement Rating (SER).

The A- rating underlines Abengoa's sustainability values, which are higher than the global average of the 11,000 companies that participated in CDP this year. Its extensive experience in climate action, as well as the transmitting effect it has had on the actors in its value chain, have served to position it among the leading companies in this ranking.

The SER assesses how effectively companies are working with their suppliers to address the challenges of climate change. This assessment is carried out on the CDP climate change questionnaire responders, focusing its analysis on responses to questions in four specific areas: "Governance", "Targets", "Scope 3 Emissions" and "Supplier Engagement".

The rating is based on the level of detail and completeness of the content, as well as the company's awareness of climate change issues, management methods and progress of climate change measures.

This assessment, together with the rating obtained in its climate change questionnaire, positions the company as one of the world leaders in the fight against climate change and its effects, due to the technological solutions it makes available to its clients, the way it manages its activities and the way it transmits its commitment to the value chain.

Important milestones such as the development of an IT tool for the GHG emissions management, the establishment of a procedure for the identification and management of climate related risks, the implementation of a strategy for calculating the internal price of carbon and an accumulated reduction of more than two and a half million tonnes of CO2 have been decisive in obtaining this recognition.

Sustainable companies need sustainable supply chains, and Abengoa considers its role in working with its partners to achieve the highest level of proactive action to be essential.
