• His work as an ICEX intern in the city of Riyadh in 1998, his brilliant professional career and his recent work as CEO of Abengoa in the framework of the company's restructuring in recent years are some of the reasons of this award.

October 18, 2019 - Joaquín Fernández de Piérola, CEO of Abengoa (MCE: ABG / P: SM), an international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors, has been awarded with the ICEX award Alumni for his brilliant career.

ICEX Alumni recognizes with this award the good performance of Joaquín Fernández de Piérola as an ICEX intern in the city of Riyadh, in 1998, as well as his work as CEO of the company and in the framework of the restructuring of Abengoa in recent years.

According to the ICEX Alumni institution, the CEO of Abengoa is one of the former ICEX interns who best embodies the spirit of these scholarships, whose goal is to promote internationalization and entrepreneurship through talent training.

The award ceremony of the II Annual Event of ICEX Alumni took place on October 17, in the auditorium of ICEX Spain Export and Investment in Madrid. The event was chaired by Adolfo Romero de Marcelo, president of ICEX Alumni, Pilar Grima Lorente, vice president of ICEX Alumni, Antonio García Rebollar, executive director of ICEX Training, Fernando Merry del Val, former executive director of ICEX Training, and Joaquín Fernández de Piérola Marín, CEO of Abengoa.

ICEX Alumni was born in 2017 with the desire to bring together all the human capital for internationalization that has been formed over the more than 40 years of existence of the ICEX scholarship program. Its mission is to be a meeting place for all former ICEX interns.
