Abengoa, nominated for desalination company of the year by Global Water Intelligence

March 8, 2018

  • The size and capacity of the projects awarded by Abengoa in the last year have been key to this nomination.

Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructures, energy and water sectors, has been nominated for Desalination Company of the Year thanks to emblematic projects awarded in Tunisia, Oman, Morocco and Saudi Arabia

This recognition, awarded by the prestigious publication in the water sector Global Water Intelligence (GWI), highlighted that “Abengoa was without doubt the most prolific winner of major new desalination projects throughout the course of last year that will among them add more than 500,000 m3/d of desalinated water”. In addition, in the words of the Organization, “it proved that scale does not have to be the enemy of innovation. The company’s newest project in Agadir, Morocco, marks the first ever mass utilization of seawater desalination for the agricultural sector, opening up an entirely new horizon for the global desalination industry”.

On the other hand, GWI has not overlooked the agreement signed with Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. for the sale of 25 % of Atlantica Yield. This is one of the major milestones in Abengoa's financial viability plan that took place last year.

During 2017, Abengoa was awarded:

-       A new Project for SONEDE under the Tunisian Ministry for Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.

-       A desalination plant in Salalah, Oman.

-       The largest desalination plant designed for drinking water and irrigation, with the possibility of with the possibility of electricity supply from renewable energies, in Morocco.

-       A desalination plant that will be integrated in the Shuaibah III complex, the largest desalination complex in the world.

The online voting process is already opened among the members of the GWI and the winners will be announced during the gala dinner that will take place at the Pavillon d'Armenonville in Paris, on April 16, 2018, as part of the Global Water Summit.
