Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has won first prize in the Health & Safety & Environment Week Campaign 2017, promoted by the Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) for all its contractors at national level.
The Health & Safety & Environment Week Campaign 2017 included a competition among all the participants in which the best-performing contractor received an award on the basis of the criteria defined by OETC, and taking into account the area of health and safety in the overall project. Abengoa won this award as a result of its ongoing work on the project which entails the construction of the Samad and Sinaw electric substations, both 132/33 kV, and associated transmission lines of 132 kV. Abengoa designed a risk prevention and environment campaign for the project which highlighted the involvement of workers and the commitment of management.
A number of activities were organized that included courses addressing working at height and rescue and emergency (more than 900 in attendance), stretching exercises, medical check-ups, the display of safe equipment, competitions and games (drawing, ‘hazard hunting’, performances, models, sports tournaments ...), road safety, the planting of local vegetation, and services to the community, among other activities. Moreover, more than 45 internal awards were granted to workers for their safety and health performance.
This fact represents a further milestone that consolidates Abengoa’s position in Oman, where the company recently concluded its first electric substation (Al Dreez), and further demonstrates the strong commitment and level of safety and health of our organization in the region.
