November 15th, 2019 – Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors, held its first outreach workshop ‘Technologies for space exploration’, for the dissemination of space technology.

A total of 50 students from the universities of Seville and Loyola and secondary and high school education centers interested in space and engineering met on November 14 at the company's headquarters, Campus Palmas Altas, in Seville (Spain).

The event’s agenda featured a panel of top-level experts such as Thorsten Denk, from the Solar Thermal Storage and Fuels Unit of the Almería Solar Platform; Eduardo López González, Head of R&D Projects of the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA); Carlos Redondo, Head of the Advanced Closed Loop System ('ACLS' Project which is a fluid recycling system in the International Space Station) of Airbus; Sonia Fereres, responsible for R&D projects for space; and Sonia de la Rosa, responsible for the Aerospace & Defense division of innovation of Abengoa.

The workshop addressed subject matters such as the production of oxygen on the Moon from local resources, how a fuel cell works and how to use it to store energy outside the Earth, terrestrial industrial systems that could be used on the Moon to generate and store energy and life support technologies, among others.

This workshop joins other multiple initiatives that Abengoa is carrying out in recent weeks related to the celebration of World Space Week (October 2019), and coinciding with Seville hosting this year’s presidency of the Community of Ariane Cities (CVA) 2019.

From its aerospace innovation area, Abengoa has been developing electronic systems for the aerospace, defense and scientific sectors for seven years. Currently, the company is involved in pioneering projects worldwide for the Ariane 5, Ariane 6 and Vega-C launchers or R&D projects funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) to design technology demonstrators in ISRU (Utilization of on-site resources) for lunar exploration.
