April, 13th 2019 – Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors, recently participated in the Global Water Summit held in London on April 8th - 10th.
This international summit, organized by Global Water Intelligence magazine, is an event of reference in the water sector. This year’s main theme was focused on groundbreaking or disruptive designs that are making the sector to evolve decisively.
In this edition, Abengoa’s Water and Energy CEO, Pedro Almagro, participated as expert in a work session which brought the main actors in the desalination sector together. This debate served to design strategies to reduce the desalinated water cost to 0.40 USD per cubic meter in five years, based on the optimization of technical specifications in bids, the introduction of new technologies and the management of risks.
For Abengoa, the planned use of renewable energies in desalination is a key factor not only to reduce costs but also to improve energy efficiency, in addition to the increase of environmental and social benefits produced using these types of energies.
Abengoa, with over 75 years of experience, is a reference company at an international level and leader in the global desalination rankings, thanks to the design and construction of over 30 large desalination plants in Spain, Africa, Latin America, Middle East and Asia. At present, Abengoa has plants with a total capacity to produce 2.8 million cubic meters of desalinated water per day, of which 1.3 million are currently under construction. With one of the largest project portfolios of contracted projects in the market, Abengoa is currently executing, among other projects, the largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in Saudi Arabia, Rabigh, which will have a capacity to treat 600,000 m3/day of seawater.
