November 15th, 2018 – Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors, participated last Monday, Novemeber 12th, in the opening ceremony of the new and multifunctional space of Montevideo (Uruguay): the so-called Antel Arena, built by Abengoa through its Uruguayan subsidiary Abengoa Teyma.
Designed to host musical shows, conferences or exhibitions, among other events, the Antel Arena has five levels and a capacity for 10,000 seated people.
The scope of Abengoa Teyma included all civil works, the reinforced concrete structure, roof, masonry, interior finishes and sanitary facilities, among other works.
The construction was developed for about 36 months and required the participation of more than 700 people from the company.
Among the main challenges in execution, we can find the assembly of the eight main beams of the complex (84 meters long and 70 tons in weight) that took several months of planning.
Another great challenge was the design and assembly of the building's enclosing facades. The main one, made of glass skin, covers 2,800 m2 of the façade, while the lateral façades, made of translucent polycarbonate, add another 9,000 square meters.
"The architectural project is at the highest level possible of the biggest arenas in the world. It is a work of great size, complex and emblematic for our country", said Alejandro Fynn, chairman of Abengoa Teyma.
Abengoa has wide experience in Uruguay and, in particular, in the areas of civil works and architecture, where has executed projects of great significance such as the remodeling of the Solís Theater and the Zitarrosa Hall or the execution of the Punta del Este Convention Center. In this sense, the Antel Arena has been a special milestone in Abengoa Teyma's almost 40 years of activity in Uruguay.
