Abengoa celebrates its 2nd Health and Safety Event

  • October 25th has been established as Abengoa's Health and Safety Day.
  • The company held events in all its headquarters and work centers with the participation of all its employees worldwide.
  • The Chairman of Abengoa, Gonzalo Urquijo, presided the celebration at the headquarters of the company, located in Seville, where he has placed safety and health as a priority in the management of the company.

October 25th, 2018 – Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructures, energy and water sectors, has celebrated its second Health and Safety Event in all of the countries where the company is present, to mark the celebration of the European Week for Safety and Health at Work.

The event aims to raise awareness and promote a culture of prevention in this area, given that it is a company priority. The Chairman of Abengoa, Gonzalo Urquijo, stated in his discourse at the event held at Campus Palmas Altas in Seville, that “The first and most important thing at Abengoa is people, and our goal is Zero Accidents. Therefore, the company’s commitment to the health and safety of all employees, and those who collaborate with us, is paramount. Today is one of the most important days for Abengoa”.

The event included, depending on the country and work center, the participation of different H&S directors and specialists who analyzed indicators and reminded those in attendance of the five pillars that make up Abengoa’s Health and Safety Policy namely, integration, leadership, training, continuous improvement and legality.

Furthermore, the major milestones that the company has reached in recent months were highlighted, such as the five years worked without a lost time accident at the Villaricos cogeneration plant (Almería, Spain); four years without lost time accidents at the solar platform of Extremadura (Spain) and the hybrid solar-gas plant Ain Beni Mathar (Morocco), two years without lost time accidents in Teyma Forestal (Uruguay) or one year without lost time accidents at the Xina Solar One solar plant (South Africa)  among many others, highlighting, once again, Abengoa’s commitment to integrating and promoting the basic principles of health at work.

Last of all, Abengoa recognized the work and efforts on the part of employees and suppliers for good practices in the performance of their duties. At Abengoa’s head office, Valerio Fernández Quero, Solar exploitation director, for his excellent work in health and safety.

The work performed in safety by the following suppliers was also highlighted: Grupo Ramos Ferreira Engenhaira S.A. and Grupo Smit.

Also worth mentioning is the presence of ACWA Power, developer, investor, owner and operator of a portfolio of Energy production and water desalination plants currently present in 10 countries, including the Middle East and North Africa regions, South Africa and Southeast Asia, for which Abengoa executes and develops the projects of Shuaibah and Salalah, in Saudi Arabia and Oman respectively, as well as phase IV of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is being developed by DEWA in cooperation with ACWA Power.
