  • The inauguration was headed by His Majesty King Salman Bin Abdulaziz al Saud and His Royal Highness Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

September 25th, 2018 – Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructures, energy and water sectors, has celebrated the success of the inauguration of Haramain high-speed train, which links the cities of Mecca and Medina, and in which it participates through its subsidiary Abengoa Inabensa.

The inauguration was headed by His Majesty King Salman Bin Abdulaziz al Saud and His Royal Highness Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who were accompanied by the ambassador of Spain in Saudi Arabia, Álvaro Iranzo, the president of the High Speed Spanish Consortium Mecca Medina (CEAVMM), Jorge Segrelles, representatives of the twelve Spanish companies and various Saudi authorities.

The project has been executed by the Spanish High Speed Meca Medina Consortium, of which Abengoa is part of along with eleven other Spanish companies (Adif, Renfe, Talgo, OHL, Ineco, Indra, Cobra, Copasa, Imathia, Siemens Spain and Consultrans) and the Saudi companies Al Shoula and Al Rosan. This project is the largest international contract achieved by a consortium made of Spanish companies.

In particular, Abengoa has been in charge of the detailed engineering, supply, assembling, testing, commissioning and maintenance -over a 12-year period- for the necessary electrification works for more than 235 km of catenary, in addition to two substations, ten auto-transformation centers and more than 30 technical buildings distributed along the route.

The high-speed line, which is designed for trains to run at a speed of up to 350 kilometers per hour, is 450km length, with double track, and has stations in Mecca, Central Jeddah, Jeddah KAIA Airport, Rabigh- KAEC and Medina.

With this project, Abengoa is further consolidating its position in the railway sector, where Abengoa is an international leader with more than 4,500 km of electrification of railway lines and more than 80 traction substations already developed or under construction. It is currently developing two new lines of the Santiago de Chile Metro and the electrification of 250 km of railway lines in the south of England.

In the national scenario, our company is developing various railway construction and maintenance projects and is leading 'The Railway Innovation Hub': an alliance between Spanish companies whose main objective is the promotion of innovation in this sector.
