Abengoa participates in a marine energy project in Portugal

• The company is responsible for the engineering of an electrical substation integrated into a wave energy capture device; of the project management and coordination of the manufacturing and of installation works of the substation.

Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructures, energy and water sectors, participates in the development of a foak (First of a Kind) project of marine energy in Peniche (Portugal).

Abengoa will be responsable for the engineering of an electrical subestation, which will be integrated into a wave energy capture device. Specifically, the scope of Abengoa’s project includes the engineering, project management and coordination of manufacturing and installation works of the substation.

Once the factory acceptance tests (FATs) have been satisfactorily completed, the substation will be installed in its location.

The foak project is promoted by the Finnish company AW-Energy with the objective of testing the first commercial wave energy capture device. The correct operation will result in the installation of a plant with 16 devices and a total capacity of 5.6 MW, designed to produce up to 11-12 GWh / year.
