The Focus-Abengoa Foundation and Loyola Andalucía University sign an agreement to offer internships in Abengoa for undergraduate and graduate students

July 14, 2015

  • Seven different kinds of internships will be available under this agreement

Seville, July 14 2015 - The Focus-Abengoa Foundation and Loyola Andalucía University today signed a new agreement under which both undergraduate and graduate students of Loyola Andalucía University will have the opportunity to enter professional internships in Abengoa. This program aims to complete the training of students for their future inclusion into the world of work.

The act of signing has been attended by Anabel Morillo León, Director-General of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation and Pedro Pablo Pérez, Secretary-General of Loyola University. The agreement extends the scope of current internship programs, and includes all areas in which the Jesuit institution has deployed its offer of official degrees.

By means of this new partnership with the Focus-Abengoa Foundation, those students from Loyola University pursuing undergraduate studies in the areas of law, communication, psychology, international relations or economics will have the opportunity to do internships in Abengoa. With regard to graduate students, those doing masters in Business Administration, Legal Sciences and Research will also benefit from this agreement.

In all, the Focus-Abengoa Foundation and Loyola Andalucía University will offer seven different kinds of internships, including those found in the "Summer Abengoa" program, with the main objective of offering first and second year students the opportunity of a first contact with professional activity; internships in national and international business for undergraduates; internships for graduates or for postgraduate national and international professionals.

At present, the Focus-Abengoa Foundation already offers different activities in which the students of Loyola Andalucía University can participate. Those are the cases of the Energy Transition and Climate Change School and the Baroque School, where students carried out several studies.

Through this new educational project, the Focus-Abengoa Foundation and Abengoa reaffirm their commitment to training by encouraging excellence in education in Andalusia and consolidate, in turn, the broad relationship with Loyola Andalucía University.

Among the initiatives jointly developed, are the implementation of various programs of the Loyola Leadership School (Graduate School of the University Loyola Andalucía) for the training and development of professionals of Abengoa, or Loyola-Abengoa Research (LAR), the first R&D center led jointly by a university and a company. In addition, since 2012, Loyola Andalucía University is also located in Seville, at Campus Palmas Altas, Abengoa's headquarters.

The Focus-Abengoa Foundation

The Focus-Abengoa Foundation was created in 1982 as a result of the cultural work begun in 1972 by Abengoa with the publication of the works Temas Sevillanos (Themes of Seville) and Iconografía de Sevilla (Iconography of Seville). A collection of documents, books and engravings on the Kingdom of Seville and by Sevillian authors was created during the same period. This initial cultural work showed Abengoa’s directors the importance of the company’s involvement in activities that directly benefit society, beyond the firm’s core technology work, which led to the creation of the Seville Cultural Fund Foundation. The Hospital de los Venerables, a 17th century monument and the headquarters of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation in Seville, has housed the Diego Velázquez Research Centre, a leading institution for studying and disseminating the Baroque era and the Sevillian period of this universally renowned artist, since the acquisition of Velázquez’s “Santa Rufina” by the Foundation in 2007. The focus on this crucial era of the Golden Age is complemented with the legacy from Professor Alfonso E. Pérez Sánchez, bequeathed to the Foundation in 2011. It comprises his library, photo library, personal archive and art collection and is being catalogued to help create a library specialising in the art and culture of the Baroque period. http://focus.abengoa.es/
