Sevilla, February 25, 2015.- The Focus-Abengoa Foundation will organize next Saturday, February 28, Andalusia Day, a number of cultural activities with the aim of bringing the Foundation’s artistic heritage to all persons wishing to enjoy it. These activities will be held both at the Foundation’s headquarters, located at the Hospital de los Venerables, and the Focus-Abengoa Campus, a meeting place for research and dissemination of landscape and historical facets of Guadiamar Valley, located at the Solúcar plant in Sanlúcar la Mayor (Seville).

Both the entrance and all activities will be cost free, therefore, all who decide to come next Saturday at the Hospital de los Venerables and the Focus-Abengoa Campus will enjoy the Foundation’s heritage and everything that has been organized on the occasion of this day of celebration of the Andalusian community. Prior reservation through the website of the Foundation (www.focus.abengoa.es) will be necessary.

Specifically, at its headquarters in Barrio de Santa Cruz, the Hospital de los Venerables, the Focus-Abengoa Foundation has scheduled an open-door day for those who want to stop by. There will be free guided tours in the building where visitors can see, among other things, the church, the different exhibition halls, the Centro Velázquez, the Baroque library or the lookout tower, from where you can see amazing views of the city of Seville.

Family visit to the Hospital de los Venerables

This activity, especially designed for families, consists of a tour in the building of the Hospital de los Venerables, using a map with clues as a resource. Throughout the tour, children, with the help of their parents, will discover the use and function of the different areas of the hospital and its technical, cultural, social, historical and artistic interest.

In addition, after the game and after knowing all the treasures of this building, families will do a practical activity in a workshop.

Guided tour in the Hospital de los Venerables

The guided tours consist of a tour in the permanent collection of the Centro Velázquez, as well as in the patio and the church of the Hospital de los Venerables. Youngers will learn to look, analyze and understand the pieces of artwork while developing critical expression; while adults will delve deeper into the Baroque era in Seville, the construction of this building and the creation of the Centro Velázquez.

Guided tour through the exhibitions of the International Painting Prize 2014

As every year, following one of its main objectives of culture promotion, the Focus-Abengoa Foundation celebrates the exhibition of the works selected for the Focus-Abengoa International Painting Prize 2014.

Guided tours in the exhibition allow a better understanding of it and of the works included, approaching the exhibition from a constant dialogue with the artworks.

Visits to the Baroque Library and the lookout tower

On their own accord, visitors to the Hospital de los Venerables during the Andalusia Day will be able to visit the Baroque Library and the lookout tower, open to the public on the occasion of this festivity.

In addition, for all those interested in visiting the Baroque Library, we will organize twenty minute visits to explain the origins of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation and the collection of Tema Sevillano housed in it.

Meanwhile, in the Focus-Abengoa Campus, located at Solúcar plant, in Sanlúcar La Mayor, we will carry out guided tours, as well as different workshops for children and adults.

Family visit to Focus-Abengoa Campus

On this family visit to Focus-Abengoa Campus, parents will learn the use and importance of new landscape elements, while the younger ones will identify the elements of the past in the landscape through the exhibition De la Tierra al Sol (From Earth to the Sun), choosing one of them and performing it in the hall itself.

To finish the activity, parents and children will share landscape elements, both from past and present.

Guided tours in Focus-Abengoa Campus

Focus-Abengoa Campus, a meeting place for research and dissemination of landscape and historical facets of Guadiamar valley, houses the exhibition From Earth to the Sun, with landscape and historical, archaeological and technological content.

This exhibition includes a documentary, a gallery of panels and cabinets and a map overview on the implementation of the solar plant in the area. In this activity, participants can take a guided tour in the exhibition.

Opening hours will be 10.00 am to 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm both at the Hospital de Los Venerables and at the Focus-Abengoa Campus.

In order to participate in all the activities, you should book your space on the website of the Focus-Abengoa Foudation (www.focus.abengoa.es). Information on the activities is also available on the website.

The Focus-Abengoa Foundation

The Focus-Abengoa Foundation was created in 1982 as a result of the cultural work begun in 1972 by Abengoa with the publication of the works Temas Sevillanos e Iconografía de Sevilla (Themes of Seville and Iconography of Seville). A collection of documents, books and engravings on the Kingdom of Seville and by Sevillian authors was created during the same period. This initial cultural work showed Abengoa’s directors the importance of the company’s involvement in activities that directly benefit society, beyond the firm’s core technology work, which led to the creation of the Seville Cultural Fund Foundation. Following the acquisition of Velázquez’s Santa Rufina by the Foundation in 2007, the Hospital de los Venerables, a 17th century monument and the headquarters of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation in Seville, has housed the Diego Velázquez Research Centre, a leading institution for studying and disseminating the Baroque era and the Sevillian period of this universally renowned artist.

Attention to this crucial moment of the Golden Age is completed with the legacy of Professor Alfonso E. Pérez Sánchez, received by the Foundation in 2011. Consisting of his library, photo library, archive and collection of artworks, its cataloging is enabling to create a library specializing in Baroque art and culture, http://focus.abengoa.es/
