Campus Palmas Altas promotes sustainable transport through its carpooling application

October 2, 2014

  • Daily use of a private car by a single person costs approximately €600/year in fuel and generates 1.06 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
  • More than 230 routes have been established for carpooling and more than 1,100 employees have registered in the application.

October 2nd, 2014 – Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ: ABGB), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, is promoting shared car use thanks to a carpooling application, through the Sustainable Mobility Office at Campus Palmas Altas.

The initiative brings together company employees that have similar working hours and routes and would like to share a car. The company’s carpooling application acts as a meeting point for these people.

For an average daily return journey of 30 km, a private car used by a single person will use approximately €600 in fuel and generate emissions of 1.06 tons of CO2 over the course of one year.

Sharing a car not only leads to financial savings for those that use it, but also reduces pollution and the amount of energy used by private vehicles, as well as making better use of public space.

Since it was introduced, more than 1,100 Abengoa employees have registered on the web application and more than 230 routes have been created for shared vehicles.

Following the success of the application among CPA users, the application has been implemented in other countries where the company has a presence, such as Mexico.

The application also offers a series of incentives to encourage its use among the most active users, from ecological car washes through to temporary parking places in cities where the company’s office is located in the city center.
