September 19, 2014

  • The company will construct a total of 86 km of lines worth €20.5 million
  • The project forms part of Kuwait’s plan to expand its energy infrastructures

September 19, 2014 - Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ: ABGB), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has been selected by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity and Water to develop a new power transmission project in the country’s capital city. The project is worth €20.5 million.

The works consist of the design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of three high and very high voltage power transmission lines with a combined length of 86 km. The first line has a capacity of 300 kV and is divided into four smaller lines of 5 km each. The second line is 58 km long and has a capacity of 132 kV, while the third line is 8 km long and 33 kV. The project is scheduled to be completed within 20 months.

The company is currently carrying out another project in the country – a 37.5 km transmission line for the Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research (KISR).

This latest project will expand Abengoa’s experience of transmission lines, consolidating its leadership position in this sector, in which it has more than 25,000 km in these types of transmission projects. The company has also been recognized for the second consecutive year as the leading international contractor for power infrastructures in the latest edition of the annual ranking drawn up by the prestigious and specialist publication Engineering News-Record.
