14 August, 2013. Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B), the company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has been selected by Ukrenergo, the national energy company of Ukraine, to develop an electricity transmission project that includes construction of a 187 kilometer line that will connect the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant with the substation in Kakhovska.
The project, financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will generate revenues of €55 million for Abengoa, which will not retain any interest in the constructed assets in line with its new strategy of limiting its investment in new projects.
This project forms part of Ukraine’s plan to develop and improve its electricity network infrastructures (2010-2030) promoted by the Ukrainian government and designed to consolidate the country’s energy independence while supplying additional energy to the country’s southern and eastern regions.
Abengoa will be responsible for the engineering, construction and commissioning of the 785 kV transmission line spanning 187 km. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months and delivered to Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s national energy company, in June 2015.
