May 13, 2013. Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B), the company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has been chosen by the Brazilian National Electricity Agency (ANEEL) to carry out a new electricity transmission project in the country. The contract, which is worth approximately €1.0 billion, will enable part of the country’s energy consumption to be supplied in an efficient and sustainable way.

Abengoa will be responsible for carrying out the engineering, design, construction, maintenance and commissioning of the three electricity transmission concessions, which will cover 2,920 km, ensuring the highest levels of quality at every stage. The project is expected to be completed within 36 months.

The first concession comprises a transmission line covering 615 km in the states of Pernambuco, Piauí and Ceará; while the second concession involves the construction of a 544 km transmission line in the states of Maranhao, Piauí and Ceará. The third and final concession won by Abengoa consists of various transmission lines with a combined length of 1,761 km, construction of a new substation and extending a further three substations, all located in the states of Pará and Tocantins.

Abengoa has already carried out other projects for Brazil’s National Electricity Agency, including the Linha Verde and Norte Brasil lines; and the most recent project awarded in December, which involves three new lines with a total length of 2,500 km.

This latest project will further develop Abengoa’s experience of transmission lines, consolidating its leadership of this sector in Latin America, where it has more than 20,000 km of this type of transmission projects. It has also participated in developing nearly 10,000 km of electricity transport infrastructures in Brazil.
