Abengoa receives the 7th SevillaNodo Entre Culturas Foundation Award

March 21, 2011

Seville, 21 March 2011. Felipe Benjumea today received the 7th SevillaNodo Entre Culturas Foundation award, presented by the SevillaNodo Entre Oriente y Occidente Foundation in recognition of Abengoa’s promotion of technological development around the world and for its “work that exemplifies the contribution to improving relations between peoples, through industrial, technological and energy development”, according to the jury.

The jury’s decision also pointed out that Abengoa is a model for the city of Seville, “as a meeting point for peoples and cultures through its business activities”.

Felipe Benjumea, chairman of Abengoa, thanked the trustees, the members of the jury and the other dignitaries present, for giving an award that, “I accept with particular affection as it comes from the city of Seville, the city where I was born and where I have my roots, and that I accept with great responsibility considering the stature of previous winners. I feel completely overwhelmed”.

“Last year was surely the most complicated for the Spanish economy since the 1970s. However, I believe that a crisis like the current one creates change, which is synonymous with opportunities, that can only arise from looking carefully, taking a certain amount of risk, differentiation and innovation. I therefore believe that the key to the future of Seville in the 21st century is to look to the world, to view the globalization of uses and markets as an opportunity that we can leverage with enthusiasm, determination and with constant work every day” added Felipe Benjumea.

The presentation ceremony, held in Seville City Hall and presided by the Mayor, Alfredo Sánchez Monteseirín, was also attended by the Presidency and Culture representative of the board of trustees of the SevillaNodo Foundation, Maribel Montaño, the jury for the 7th edition of the award, and a large group of municipal representatives and people from the business sector in Andalusia.

The Mayor highlighted the importance to the city of Seville of giving this award to Abengoa, “because it has shown that we know how to work hard, to compete at the highest level and to develop a multinational company that applies the latest technology, with its headquarters here in Seville that are a paragon of innovation and sustainability and an emblematic technology campus at the forefront of economic development”.

The SevillaNodo Foundation presents this award to people and institutions that endorse the city of Seville as a location as well as activities that promote technological progress and socio-economic and social development of peoples around the world.
