Launch of the Loyola-Abengoa Research Centre to develop educational and research activities based on renewable energy and sustainable development

Seville, 14 January 2011.- Abengoa and the Loyola Andalucía University Foundation have today presented the Loyola-Abengoa Research Centre, which is being launched to promote educational and research activities based on renewable energy and sustainable development.

The Research Centre will also be a joint space for training professionals in R&D+i activities and as a high-level scientific and technological forum that is capable of proposing solutions for the future in the areas of renewable energy and sustainable development.

The new Centre, which is the result of the agreement signed between both institutions, represents a shared commitment to the generation and transmission of knowledge and its application to the real world of industry and business.

In addition to creating the Centre, the collaboration agreement, which will initially last for ten years, also includes cooperation in the following areas: academic; research, technological development and innovation; technical, technological and consultancy studies; studies of social and environmental problems; and cooperation for development and European programs.

Representatives from both institutions emphasised their belief that collaboration in education and research is the key to academic, scientific and business diligence and success.

The presentation of the agreement held at the Campus Palmas Altas, Abengoa’s corporate headquarters in Seville, involved Ildefonso Camacho Laraña, President of the Loyola Andalucía University Foundation and President of ETEA; Gabriel Pérez Alcalá, Vice-President of the Loyola Andalucía University Foundation and Director of ETEA, and José Domínguez Abascal, Technical General Secretary of Abengoa.

Loyola Andalucía University is a private university run by the Company of Jesus, which is waiting for official status from the regional government of Andalusia, and which intends to start classes during the 2013-14 academic year. It intends to be fully functioning by 2017, with degree and post-graduate programs.
