Telvent to install a Tunnel Management system in Spain

May 12, 2010 – Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that it will install its Telvent SmartMobilityTM Tunnel solution for the Despeñaperros, La Cantera and Corzo tunnels currently under construction by Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), under Spanish Public Works Ministry, on the Southern Highway (A-4) segment which connects Venta de Cárdenas and Santa Elena.

Construction of the six new tunnels will reduce travel time and reinforce road safety on the Southern Highway. The Telvent SmartMobilityTM Tunnel solution will provide operators in charge of tunnel management and maintenance with constant intelligence on what is happening inside the tunnel, enabling them to control traffic in real time and be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to any emergency situation occurring within the installations. This will lead to a substantial improvement in incident response times and more efficient management of maintenance plans.

Telvent SmartMobilityTM Tunnel is based on the company’s proprietary supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA OASyS), which allows centralization of both tunnel infrastructure and traffic management, providing operators a comprehensive set of effective tools to manage and secure tunnel simplifying operation while increasing safety and security.

Specifically, the following systems will be implemented and integrated on the control center: fire detection control, closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, intercom, variable message boards, lighting, ventilation and communications network.
