Seville, March 1st, 2010.- Abengoa Bioenergy has signed contracts with the oil traders Cepsa and BP Oil España for the supply of ethanol. The biofuel supplied will be assigned for the direct blending with gasoline, fulfilling the legal obligation of ethanol operators with gasoline.
In 2010, the minimum requirement for use of bioethanol is 3,\d \% (percentage shown in terms of energy content) of the gasoline that the trader commercializes in the Spanish market this year, this percentage was 2,\d \% in 2009. For the fulfilment of this requirement domestic and improved “Ethyl tert-butyl ether” (ETBE) has been mainly used, which is an additive of gasoline produced by the reaction of bioethanol and isobutylene, which is obtained in the refining process.
Moreover, for the first time in Spain, there will be mixtures of gasoline and bioethanol in the landings of CLH. For this, CLH has done the appropriate investments in their storage and distribution centers, so that they can store bioethanol and do the blending at the charge chutes of the tankers that will later be transported to the service stations and to the charge centers of fleets. The five centers chosen are located near areas of major consumption, within the area covered by CLH.
