October 14, 2009 - Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today the successful automation of Istanbul's municipal natural gas distribution network, an infrastructure managed by Turkey's largest natural gas distributor, İGDAŞ. A Telvent-developed supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system and applications now manage the network, consisting of 14,000 kilometers of pipeline, to ensure reliable natural gas supply to the city of Istanbul. As a continuation of the installation project, Telvent will oversee proper network operation.
The initial scope of the project, totaling more than 4.5 million euros, covered installation and start-up of a main control center and a backup center, both based on Telvent's OASyS UX 6.3 SCADA system. İGDAŞ-specific advanced management applications geared towards operational analysis and measurement, as well as certain metering, control, and communications infrastructure, also were implemented as part of the project scope of work - and all rolled out with success. As part of the contract, Telvent maintains a remote and on-site first-level line of support to ensure flawless operation of the systems delivered. With a rising natural gas demand in the city of Istanbul, İGDAŞ has substantially improved its response capability as a result of this comprehensive project.
Telvent technology also provides operational control for Turkish gas companies BOTAŞ and Başkent Gaz (formerly called EGO). These installations, and other large-scale natural gas network projects in Italy, Greece, and Egypt, reflect the growing confidence in Telvent by the Turkish market and among Mediterranean basin companies.
