Seville, 23 September 2009. Their Majesties, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, today presided over the inauguration of the Palmas Altas Campus, Abengoa's new corporate headquarters in Seville designed by the British architect Richard Rogers.
In his speech, Felipe Benjumea said that "the Palmas Altas Campus, where more than 2,200 people will work, has been created following the sustainability guidelines and objectives promoted by Abengoa. Some 66% of the energy that the Campus consumes is produced by its own tri-generation facilities, photovoltaic panels, parabolic-trough heliostats and a Stirling disk". The Chairman of Abengoa acknowledged the work of the architect Richard Rogers, "who has managed to successfully combine the atmosphere of the patios, the Andalusian plazas, the shady areas and the water features, to produce a sustainable building".
The efficient design of the Palmas Altas Campus will reduce its electricity consumption by 13% compared to other conventional buildings and it will only need to purchase 21% of its energy from the network as the rest is generated by the Campus itself.
The Palmas Altas Campus is the leading business park dedicated to innovation in Andalusia and the largest private initiative, technology business complex in southern Spain. Built on a 42,100 m2 site, the campus will have a constructed floor area of 50,000 m2, of which Abengoa will occupy 30,000 m2, other companies will occupy 16,300 m2 and the remaining 3,700 m2 will house the communal services.
