August 25th, 2009.- Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today the signing of a new contract to modernize the VTMIS (Vessel Traffic Management and Information System) maritime traffic control systems for five Mexican ports. The project will enable enhanced security and increased efficiency in port operations in Lázaro Cárdenas, Manzanillo, Mazatlán, Progreso and Tampico, Mexico.
Telvent will upgrade computer equipment and expand the current control system with new automatic ship identification system (AIS) stations, which will increase reliability and the scope for identifying vessels within the port's area of influence.
In addition, Telvent will be in charge of preventive maintenance of the systems in order to prevent potential incidents that are inherent to navigation, as well as corrective maintenance intended to optimize the performance of devices that are showing functional deficiencies. This will ensure proper uninterrupted operation of these systems in the coming years, as well as their compatibility and smooth integration with any new technologies developed in this field.
The project will also serve to support the application of port regulations in terms of security and maritime navigation.
Manuel Sanchez, Telvent's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, stressed the importance of this new contract which "extends the collaboration in recent years between Telvent and Mexico's Secretariat of Communications and Transportation and port authorities.
