July 16, 2009 - Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced that the company has been awarded the project to develop a new railway traffic management simulator for ADIF. The contract, valued at 2.1 million euros and awarded to the temporary joint venture composed of Telvent and Idom, is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2011.
Through the use of innovative simulation techniques, Telvent will recreate a complete railway control center in the training rooms equipped for this purpose. From a position identical to that of the railway traffic operator, students will experience real situations, such as a train that is not coming to a stop in the presence of a red light, or, for instance, a train breakdown on the line. By resolving these simulated situations, operators will improve their efficiency in the daily management of the railway network, as well as their response capability in dealing with potential incidents.
This innovative simulation system will not only reinforce personnel training and improve professional's training itineraries, but will also heighten security and efficiency levels, optimizing railway network management. Moreover, the project will benefit both ADIF personnel in facilitating their work, as well as the passengers that will enjoy a higher-quality of service.
Telvent will develop and start up the simulation system that will feature six attendance-based training rooms located in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, León and Miranda de Ebro. Here, students will have access to the customary tools of railway command posts, without having to interfere with real operations, thereby preventing unnecessary risks or disturbance of the other operators. The Telvent-designed system will also provide employees with access to online contents from their posts through ADIF's intranet system.
Manuel Sánchez Ortega, chairman of Telvent, expressed a high degree of satisfaction in "working with ADIF in the enhancement of its information systems and the training that will enable reinforcement of this Spanish railway operator's already outstanding levels of security and efficiency." Furthermore, "This project opens up the possibilities for taking our broad expertise in simulation environments to new markets," he added.
Telvent, with wide-ranging knowledge and expertise in railway traffic management systems, has thereby consolidated its position as an ADIF technological partner. Telvent has worked with ADIF in the past in implementing Centralized Traffic Control systems in Barcelona, León and Oviedo, in addition to projects focused on improving railway management in other Renfe Commuter cores, providing ticketing solutions in Barcelona, Madrid and Bilbao.
