Madrid, December 17, 2008.- Santiago Seage, chairman of Abengoa Solar, accepted yesterday the Environment award for the best business initiative in the Climate Change and Renewable Energies category from Elena Espinosa, minister for the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs. In granting this award, the judging panel distinguished the construction and start-up of Abengoa Solar’s PS10, the world’s first commercial tower solar power plant, located in Sanlúcar la Mayor (Seville) and in operation since 2007.

Santiago Seage expressed his satisfaction upon receiving the award, emphasizing that it represents acknowledgement of Abengoa Solar’s efforts in technological innovation over the last few years. He also stated that the company would soon proceed to operational start-up of PS20, the world’s second commercial solar power tower, as well as the first high-temperature pilot tower in the world. Mr. Seage also pointed out that Abengoa Solar is proving that, with the right support, Spanish companies have the capacity to lead technological development in thermosolar energy, a highly significant market worldwide.

The Environment Awards, organized for the past eleven years by Garrigues, Expansión and CISS, aim to publicly acknowledge and disseminate the work of Spanish companies and public institutions in the interests of the environment, the fight against climate change, promotion of renewable energies, and the development of eco-efficient products.

Commercial use of the PS10 plant, with its 11 megawatts of power output, began in June, 2007. The plant generates enough clean energy to supply around 5,500 homes and enables savings in CO2 emissions into the atmosphere of 6,700 tons.
