October 23th, 2008.- The Spanish network of service stations supplying e85 has been increased with two new service stations which first ever will supply bioethanol in Catalonia and Castellon respectively, which implies a large step towards the expansion of the use of this kind of fuel.
In Catalonia, the new station is located in Igualada, and its start-up has been supported by ICAEN, the Catalonian Institute for Energy and by Abengoa Bioenergy. The service station of Petromiralles, located in the junction of Guimaraes street and Alemanya Street, in Igualada, will sell bioethanol mixed with petrol in several percentages: 5 percent of bioethanol (e5), 10 percent of bioethanol (e10), and 85 percent of bioethanol (e85). The new dispensers, which have been partially subsidized, by the ICAEN, and have an automatic device which lets you choose the mix at the very moment of filling up.
Monsells service station, located in 65, Avenida Castellón Street, in the city of Almazora in Castellon will sell bioethanol mixed with petrol of 95 octanes with 85 percent of bioethanol (e85). The new dispensers have been partially subsidized by AVEN, the Valencian Agency for Energy. The start-up of this first service station in the Castellón province has been possible thanks to the support of AVEN and Abengoa Bioenergy.
The two new service stations, with which Abengoa Bioenergy has signed a supply agreement, were first supplied with bioethanol in the previous weeks. This bioethanol proceeded from the Ecocarburantes Españoles plant, owned by Abengoa Bioenergy and located in Cartagena, Murcia.
These two new service stations are added to the twelve existing ones which distribute e85 in Spain. At present, Abengoa Bioenergy is cooperating in several projects for the improvement of biofuels distribution in Spain.
The e85 can be used in flexi fuel vehicles, FFV which accept any kind of mix, from 0 up to 85 percent of bioethanol in petrol.
Abengoa Bioenergy is the first European bioethanol producer (with a production capacity of 212 million gallons) and one of the main producers in the United States (202 million gallons) and in Brazil (48 million gallons), with a total installed production capacity of 462 million gallons.
