July 1, 2008

Madrid, July 1st, 2008.- The National Electric Energy Agency of Brazil (Aneel) has awarded the Amazonas Consortium, in which Abengoa holds a 50.5 percent stake and Electronorte the remaining 49,5 percent, the operation contract for the 586 km, 500 kV power transmission line connecting the towns of Oriximiná, Itacoatiara and Camiri. The concession contract comprises the construction of the necessary installations and subsequent 30-year operation and maintenance of the same. The estimated contract investment is more than $820 million.

In addition, the contract includes the construction of two new substations, as well as the enlargement of an existing substation. The project execution time schedule is 36 months. The works will be carried out along the left bank of the river Amazonas.

The line will supply the energy generated with hydraulic sources to Manaos, the capital of the state of Amazonas and an important production and technological center of the northwest region of Brazil. This area currently receives its energy supply from diesel-fired power plants.

Abengoa has been permanently present in Brazil for more than 30 years now. It is currently operating 11 power transmission line concessions totaling more than 4,000 km.
