April

José Enrique Ayarra, tenured organist of the Chapel of Los Venerables, and the Chamber Orchestra of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville, joins forces to perform Händel's music

April 29, 2008

Seville, 29th April 2008.- Next Sunday, the 4th of May, José Enrique Ayarra, tenured organist of the Chapel of Los Venerables, and the Chamber Orchestra Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville (ROSS) will perform Händel’s Concerto No. 15 at the church of Seville’s Hospital de los Venerables as part of the 2008 musical programming organised by the Focus-Abengoa Foundation.

Thanks to this new edition of the concert featuring the organ coupled with the orchestra, the audience may enjoy Händel’s 15th concerto of the 16 that the German maestro composed for this instrument. This performance has been held every year since 1998, when the Chamber Orchestra of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville was created. The concert, which will begin at 12:00 pm at the Church of Los Venerables, will be completed by a performance of the Introduction and Allegro for String Quartet, Op. 47 by Edward Elgar, and Souvenir de Florence for a String Sextet in D minor, Op. 70 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The concert will be broadcast by RNE Radio Clásica.

The vast versatility of the ROSS Chamber Orchestra is one of its hallmarks and has been the key to achieving outstanding harmony with the performance by Father Ayarra. This chamber group was founded as part of the Symphony Orchestra of Seville to perform a specific repertoire of chamber music whose characteristics relegated it outside the usual repertoire of the large symphony orchestras.

Ever since it was created, the Chamber Orchestra of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville has been conducted by Biao Xue, a violin virtuoso who throughout his successful career has played with the Beaumont Symphony, the Houston Ballet, the New American Chamber Orchestra and the Galveston Symphony Orchestra, among others.

José Enrique Ayarra has been the tenured organist at the Chapel of Los Venerables ever since the Focus-Abengoa Foundation commissioned Gerhard Grenzing to craft an organ for Seville’s Chapel of the Hospital de los Venerables back in 1988. As a concert organist, he has performed in recitals in more than 30 countries in Europe, Africa, America and Asia and has recorded performances for radio and television in around 12 countries. He also has recorded on organs in different European schools.

The Focus-Abengoa Foundation was created in 1982 as the outcome of the cultural efforts begun by Abengoa back in 1972 with its publication of Sevillian Topics and Iconography of Seville. During this same period, a collection of documents, books and engravings on the Kingdom of Seville and Sevillian authors was also amassed. This initial cultural impetus led Abengoa’s leaders to realise the importance of going beyond the company’s merely technological functions with activities that would benefit society. Thus, the Fondo de Cultura de Sevilla Foundation was born.
