Telvent to provide new meteorological observation systems for Swedish Air Force

January 30, 2008

Madrid, January 30, 2008. – Telvent (Nasdaq: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that it has been awarded a contract by The Swedish Defense Administration, FMV, to the Swedish Air Force to design, supply and maintain their new Meteorological Observation System (METOS) which will provide up-to-date and real time information on weather conditions to the Swedish Air Forces. The contract is valued at more than 1.6 million euro.

The main objective of this project is to replace the existing Swedish Air Force´s weather observation system with new hardware and software using proven and safe technology. The Meteorological Observation System (METOS) will collect, process measured data and disseminate information to MILMET - the Swedish Armed Force’s meteorological information system - and the Distribution System. It will be connected to existing sensors and data acquisition units in order to create and send reports on weather conditions around the world according to international, national and Swedish Armed Forces regulations. The key feature of Telvent METOS is that it can be run and maintained as a full networked meteorological system providing greater security and support to always generate and facilitate processing of information for all users.

Telvent will install the first METOS system at METOCC the Swedish Armed Forces Meteorological and Oceanographic Centre. After a successful Site Acceptance Test (SAT), Telvent will start the training of clients to understand and learn how to use the new system. Subsequently Telvent will supply the remaining systems to be installed by the customer at various locations.

According to Telvent's chairman and chief executive officer, Manuel Sanchez, “This is an important and strategic project for Telvent and the second contract in Sweden in the meteorological business. It is very special and useful to have addition to the Telvent track record, since it provides a very good reference for other military forces in the region”.

Telvent has implemented similar meteorological solutions by delivering the nationwide data acquisition and processing network for the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), for the nine Air Force bases in the Netherlands (KLu), the central server system for the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI), the Swiss meteorological observation system at MeteoSwiss, the meteorological sensor network serving the Air Traffic Control at all the civil airports in Belgium (Belgocontrol), and AWOS at all 11 Air Force bases in Belgium.
