Befesa acquires 100 percent of Tracel

January 21, 2008

Madrid, 21 January 2007. Befesa has acquired the 100 percent of Tratamiento y Concentración de Liquidos, S.L (Tracel), a company dedicated to treating liquid wastes, but which also conducts research in this field and into the use and commercialisation of the resulting products.

Tracel, which was created in 2002 and is owned by the MP Corporación Industrial and Egmasa with a 51 percent and 49 percent holding respectively, provides an integral liquid waste management service and is authorised to manage both hazardous and non-hazardous wastes from different production processes in Andalusia and other regions in Spain. It is also licensed to act as a transfer centre for these wastes.

Tracel has a liquid waste treatment plant with a capacity to treat 18,000 tonnes a year in the province of Jaen. This centre may increase its capacity since it can accept an extensive list of wastes indicated in its licence, as described in the European Waste List Codes under European legislation.

Javier Molina, Chairman of Befesa, said, "this acquisition will promote Befesa’s capacity to treat liquid wastes and supplements its existing facilities, reinforcing its leading position among waste management companies".

Befesa, the environmental services subsidiary of Abengoa, focuses on providing industrial environmental services and constructing environmental infrastructures. It is a public listed company with a market capitalisation in excess of 550 million euros (close 2007). (
