The @firma platform developed by Telvent receives the Good Practice Label for 2007 from the European Commission

December 20, 2007

  • @firma makes it possible to use the electronic National Identity Card and the electronic signature for online procedures
  • Only 10% of projects presented to the European Commission obtain this Quality Label

Madrid, December 20, 2007.- Telvent (Nasdaq: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that its @firma authentication and electronic signature platform has received the "Good Practice Label" quality designation for 2007 from the European Commission. This award recognizes the impact that this innovative initiative has had, and continues to have, on electronic administration in Spain. This initiative was proposed initially by the Department of Justice and Public Administration of the Andalusian Regional Government, implemented there in 2003, and subsequently adopted by the Spanish Ministry of Public Administration in 2005.

The @firma platform makes it possible to use the electronic National Identity Card and an electronic signature for more than 100 online services available to citizens. @firma can be used for everyday procedures such as managing certificates of residence, applying for grants and subsidies, paying rates and taxes, inquiring about remaining points on drivers’ licenses, changing doctors, and making appointments in advance. The platform identifies users and authenticates official documents that have been electronically signed so that users do not have to be physically present to do so.

Due to the combined efforts of the Spanish Ministry of Public Administration and Telvent, version 5.0 of the @firma platform has been the first to authenticate the electronic National Identity Card. In 2005 the Spanish Police Department established it as the official authority for authenticating electronic National Identity Cards for all public administrations in Spain. This action, along with enforcement of the new Spanish law on citizens’ electronic access to public services (LAECSP), has enabled individuals to conduct their administrative businesses – previously carried out only in person or on paper – by electronic means.

@firma also provides electronic signature services to more than 100 other public institutions in Spain, including the Regional Government of Castile and Leon, the Spanish National Employment Institute, the Spanish Ministry of Justice, the Spanish Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Spanish Official Credit Institute, the Bank of Spain, the Principality of Asturias, and the State Public Accounts Department.
