The Focus-Abengoa Foundation and the Culture Delegation of the Seville Town Hall have agreed to jointly promote organised visits to Velázquez’s painting “Santa Rufina”. The foundation purchased this painting last July as part of its cooperation agreement with Seville’s Town Hall, and it will be publicly exhibited at the Town Council headquarters in Plaza Nueva.
To spread further knowledge about the characteristics and meaning of this work of art, which is closely tied to the city’s history, both institutions will sponsor these organised tours in conjunction with the University of Seville. They will take place during the month of October, Monday to Friday from 10 am to 1.30 pm and from 5 to 7.30 pm. The historical, social and artistic context of Seville in the early 17th century will be briefly outlined in an educational fashion, as will Velázquez’s geographical references related to his city of birth, the iconography of the Sevillian saint chosen as the subject of this painting, and the artistic and technical characteristics of this painting.
