The Focus-Abengoa Foundation, in conjunction with Abengoa Solar, organise in Seville theFirst World Solar Power Conference

October 3, 2007

Seville, 3 October 2007. The leading representatives from the solar energy industry will gather together from 24-26 October in Seville to participate in the World Solar Power Conference which the Focus-Abengoa Foundation is organising for the first time in conjunction with Abengoa Solar. The conference will focus on solar technologies for industrial plants that are connected to the electricity network.

This conference, which will be held at the Hospital de los Venerables, the headquarters of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation, aims to become a world benchmark forum for the industry, in addition to being the first major event organised by the Focus-Abengoa Forum on Energy and Climate Change.

Over the course of three days, scientists, engineers, representatives of centres that research and promote solar energy, construction companies, electrical companies and finance banks from all over the world will analyse and debate key aspects of a sector that is growing steadily.

The participants will examine relevant issues such as how technologies make it possible to efficiently transform solar radiation into electricity, the legal frameworks that develop and facilitate the progress of the industry, the benefits of solar installations and different countries’ strategic policies on the clean production of this renewable energy. The congress will focus on high temperature thermosolar energy and photovoltaic concentration technologies.

The Solar Power Conference not just consolidates Abengoa Solar as one of the leading stakeholders in the solar energy market, it also is part of the Focus-Abengoa Forum on Energy and Climate Change, which was launched to serve as an instrument of high-level reflection and action that promotes knowledge and creates public opinion on these issues.

The Focus-Abengoa Foundation was founded in 1982 as the result of the cultural efforts that got underway in 1972 when Abengoa published the works "Sevillian Topics" and "Iconography of Seville". During this same period, a collection of documents, books and engravings either on the Kingdom of Seville or by Sevillian authors also began to be amassed. This initial cultural endeavour showed the leaders of Abengoa the importance of being visible beyond its essential technical functions with an activity that would benefit society, and thus the Fundación Fondo de Cultura of Seville (FOCUS) was founded.

Abengoa Solar, the solar power business group of Abengoa, develops and applies technologies for producing energy using the sun as the primary energy source.
