Telvent to Upgrade Australian's Automatic Weather Station National Network

August 24, 2007

Madrid, September 13, 2007 - Telvent GIT S.A. (Nasdaq: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, today announced that it had been awarded a contract from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) to supply of Automatic Weather Station (Data Acquisition System) equipment for use across Australia. The contract, for more than three million euros (five million Australian dollars), is for a period of ten years, and is key part of BoM’s plan to upgrade its AWS network over the forthcoming years.

The aim of the contract is to supply the Bureau of Meteorology with equipment, to enable them to replace all 600 Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) in the Australian national weather monitoring network. The AWSs are located all around Australia and on various nearby offshore islands, and will be progressively upgraded over the next three to five years. The contract also includes the provision of 50 Sea Level Monitoring Stations, for the Australian Sea Level Observation System (ASLOS), which is a central part of the Australian Tsunami Warning System (ATWS).

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology will use the data gathered from the Automatic Weather Stations for all climatological monitoring, as well as providing data for their real-time forecasting activities. This project will be instrumental in not only day-to-day observations and forecasts, but also to measure the impact of climate change.

According to Telvent’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Manuel Sánchez, “We are very pleased to work with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, by using Telvent’s advanced new systems to help the Bureau more easily collect weather data, and analyse its significance in the both the long and short term. In that way, we are going to contribute, together with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, to improving meteorological predictions throughout the territory and to measuring and controlling the effects of climate change in Australia. This contract continues the valuable association that Telvent has enjoyed with the Bureau over the last decade”.

Bureau of Meteorology also stated that the new data acquisition system will underpin a generational change in the Bureau’s network of over 600 automated weather stations. These stations monitor a range of surface conditions that are vital to the Bureau’s weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and hazard warning services. The new data acquisition system will also be incorporated in sea level monitoring stations. These measure tides and monitor changes in sea level, and assist in the early detection of tsunami waves.

Telvent’s data acquisition system is highly expandable, and will be equipped with versatile communications interfaces. This flexibility will enable the Bureau to rapidly configure the equipment for new monitoring applications and new sensor technologies over the next decade. The Bureau also expects a reduction in maintenance costs compared with its current network of weather stations.

Telvent has undertaken the provision of the previous generation AWS network nationwide in Australia, for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology from 1992 to 2007. Telvent has recently executed similar nationwide AWS networks in several other countries - Switzerland: MeteoSwiss – SwissMetNet; The Netherlands: KNMI – RHIM Project; Kuwait: DGCA – AWOS Project; and Brunei: DCA – AMEDAS Project. In addition, Telvent has supplied many similar Meteorological systems for numerous European airports, and supplied meteorological information systems for airports in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
