Madrid, July 18, 2007 - Telvent GIT S.A. (Nasdaq: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that it has been awarded the contract to maintain and modernize the city’s traffic infrastructure by the Municipal Government of Avilés (Asturias). The city will invest 2.7 million euros for the development of this key project.
This project not only involves the maintenance of the city’s traffic management installations for a period of four years, with the possibility of an additional two years, but also the modernization and expansion of the current roadway installations. The centralized traffic-light control system will be updated, and a management system will be installed for accesses to the historic center, including remotely-managed retracting pylons in the surrounding streets. The project also includes the supply of specific equipment to detect and photograph red-light infractions.
All of the systems will be integrated into the Optimus urban mobility management platform. This platform will allow efficient integration and optimized management of the different street-side equipment from the city’s control center, combining the tools required to regulate traffic lights, control accesses, and dynamic signaling of Avilés (information panels) into a single system. For example, it will be possible to regulate traffic in scheduled or dynamic mode. These options allow different plans to be selected and activated to allow the city’s traffic systems to adapt to the traffic conditions at any given time. All of this will ultimately improve mobility and fluidity of traffic in the city and reduce CO2 emissions.
According to Manuel Sánchez, Telvent’t Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, “With this contract, Telvent is maintaining its commitment to the city of Avilés, which dates back to 1980, providing it with the latest technology and service to guarantee effective traffic management.”
The project includes the installation of a video-monitoring network that complements the existing equipment and allows more efficient control from the management center. Energy efficiency is also a factor in the project, which will increase the number of intersections, equipped with LED optics and will use low-power regulators in part of the expansions that will be carried out.
Telvent continues to expand its references in traffic management in the Spanish market, complementing its existing installations in different cities like Valladolid, Oviedo, and Madrid. Telvent is also present with similar projects at the international level in cities like São Paolo (Brazil), Rosario (Argentina), Guadalajara (Mexico), among others.
