Madrid, 25 June 2007. Befesa in joint venture with Ocide, have been awarded to construct the water treatment plant El Campello in Alicante, on the part of the Entidad Publica de Saneamiento de Aguas Residuales de la Comunidad Valenciana, the Valencian water authority which is responsible for operating the sewerage and water treatment facilities as well as managing the works on these facilities for the regional government of Valencia, the invest exceeds 12.7 million euro.
The water treatment plant will handle waste water from the residential areas in the northern part of El Campello town. This project combined with two additional treatment plants, Alacantí Nod and Alacantí Sud, form part of the action plan to increase the treatment capacity of Alicante and its surrounding area by 50 per cent.
El Campello in the Mediterranean const, only ten kilometres from Alicante and 30 kilometres from Benidorm, is a town that has managed to become a leading tourism centre. It already has a population in excess of 24,000 which rises to 100,000 in the summer.
The project includes the sewers to the north of the town centre, pumping stations and a treatment plant designed to supply a population of 26,000. It will be divided into two lines with the possibility for a future increase in order to supply a population of 39,000.
It will have an advanced biological treatment system using micro-filtration membranes and subsequent disinfection. The result of this treatment water is that it can be used for irrigation.
Javier Molina, Chairman of Befesa said, “With this project, Befesa is participating in the regional government of Valencia’s strategic plan to increase and improve the treatment and reuse capacity of treated waters in this region, specifically in Alicante and the surrounding area, allowing it to adapt to current and future demands”.
