Telvent awarded its first traffic management project in India

June 6, 2007

Madrid, June 6, 2007 – Telvent GIT S.A. (Nasdaq: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to design, construct and commission a traffic infrastructure management system for the City of Mumbai. The Municipal Corporation of Mumbai chose Telvent in collaboration with the Indian company CMS Computers Ltd, to lead this nine million euro project financed by the World Bank.

The aim of the project is to enhance traffic mobility and fluidity, as well as increase the average vehicle speed on Mumbai’s roads. Telvent will implement its RealTime intelligent urban traffic management technological solution – ITACA – at 253 traffic-light-controlled intersections across the city. This will be managed from a traffic control center. Special emphasis will be placed on using low energy consumption technologies for traffic lights and controllers at the intersections. As a result, it is expected that travel times will be reduced, contaminating gas emissions will be curbed, and consumption of fossil fuels and electric energy will fall.

According to Manuel Sanchez Ortega, Telvent’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, “We are very pleased that the city of Mumbai has chosen our leading edge technology to provide a solution to its traffic mobility and fluidity problems. We expect that the new traffic management system will help the city offer a better service for its citizens and reduce gas emissions. It is also an important project for Telvent as it is our first transportation segment contract in India.”

The system being implemented will use the most advanced traffic management technologies. It will constantly acquire data on road status, including number of vehicles arriving at intersections by each access point, or arrival time. Using the data acquired by the system, the traffic lights at each intersection can be constantly adjusted in accordance with real demand and in timely coordination with neighboring intersections and the city’s main thoroughfares. The aim is to achieve optimal coordination between intersections and reduce road traffic congestion. The process is developed in real-time, allowing the prevention of sudden changes in traffic fluidity.

Through this first project, Telvent and the World Bank expect to implement a traffic management model in Mumbai that will serve as an example that can be exported to other cities across the country.

Telvent continues to expand its traffic management references in the Asian marketplace by adding to those that already exist for different cities in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. Telvent is also executing similar projects globally in cities including Sao Paolo (Brazil), Rosario (Argentina), Guadalajara (Mexico), and Madrid (Spain).
