Befesa to construct several treatment plants in Castilla–La Mancha

February 14, 2007

Madrid, 14 February 2007. Aguas de Castilla-La Mancha, the public entity owned by the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha, has awarded Befesa two contracts to construct water treatment plants valued at more than €25 million.

The first project, the Mocejón plant, which will have the capacity to treat waste from 100,000 inhabitants, has arisen from the strong growth in the Sagra Baja de Toledo region in recent years. The plant will serve the towns of Bargas, Olías del Rey, Magán, Mocejón, Villaseca de la Sagra and Cabañas de la Sagra. The project will also include the construction of the sewers to carry the waste to the treatment plant.

Befesa will also construct another thirteen treatment plants in Albacete province, scheduled under the “Castilla-La Mancha Treatment and Sewerage Plan”, for the towns and villages of Alcaraz, Peñascosa, Solanilla, El Horcajo, El Robledo, Viveros, Los Chospes, El Cubillo, Masegoso, Ituero, Casas de Lázaro, El Jardín and El Ballestero. These plants will resolve the problem of waste water treatment for the towns and villages in the northern part of the Alcaraz region by creating a basic sewerage infrastructure, which some of them currently lack or where the existing infrastructure is insufficient for the whole town. This project will also prevent the damage that waste water sites currently cause in the surrounding natural spaces.

Javier Molina, Chairman of Befesa said, “once again these awards will allow Befesa to contribute to solving sewerage problems derived from strong population growth and due to the lack of these infrastructures in some of the urban centres included in these projects, which will give the whole population access to these services.”
