Abengoa to construct new electricity lines and substations in Mexico

Madrid, October 26, 2006. - Abengoa, through its subsidiary Abengoa México, has been awarded a more than 20 million euro contract by the Federal Electricity Commission (FEC) to execute all the works required on the construction and installation of four power transmission lines and three transformation substations for the Mexican State.

The project, with a 12-month execution period, will create around 200 jobs. The voltages of the four power transmission lines will be 400 and 115 kV (kilovolts) and the total length involved is 37.8 kilometers. On the other hand, the voltages of the three transformation substations will be 400 and 115 kV and overall capacity will be 225 MVA. The project also includes six high and medium voltage feeders in the State of Mexico.

According to the general manager for Abengoa’s Latin American businesses, Salvador Martos, “with this new contract, Abengoa further strengthens its solid position in the Mexican electricity sector, thereby consolidating its presence in a market in which it has been operating for twenty-five years and in which it has the firm intention of continuing to develop projects.

Abengoa is currently executing different project in Mexico such as the supply and installation of guard wire (protector against atmospheric discharges) with fiber optics on transmission lines over an overall length of more than 4,700 kilometers, or the supply, installation and start-up of optical equipment, management systems, synchronization systems, and peripheral electronic equipment on optical links located in different states of the republic. There is another project for the Federal Electricity Commission (FEC) of Mexico among the projects the Company is developing in the South American country, and it is the construction of eleven 115 kV substations and two transmission lines.

The Latin American market, with countries such as Uruguay, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Puerto Rico, Paraguay, Chile and Bolivia, currently represents, for Abengoa, around 30 percent of its sales figure. Abengoa currently has a workforce of more than 4,000 and is very active in the energy, installations, telecommunications, marketing and industrial manufacturing sectors.
