Abengoa awarded the Emergency Plant contract for Barcelona Airport's New Area Terminal

October 17, 2006

Madrid, October 17, 2006. - Instalaciones Inabensa, a company belonging to Abeinsa, which in turn is the parent company of Abengoa’s Industrial Engineering and Construction Business Unit, has been awarded, under a joint venture with Agelectric, S.A. and Crespo y Blasco, S.A., the more than 21 million euro contract for the Emergency Plant for Barcelona Airport’s new Area Terminal.

The execution period for the project put out to tender by AENA last April is fifteen months and it contemplates the installation of the emergency sets and associated equipment for the new CENAT generating station for the New Area Terminal (NAT) at Barcelona airport.

Abengoa will install five 7.6 MVA generating sets and the necessary ancillary systems that will provide electric energy in the event of the normal supply being affected in any way. In addition, it will install a natural gas network to supply the Emergency Equipment and also to supply other users of the airport. As part of this project, Abengoa will also install the fire-fighting system for the room where the generating sets will be housed and it will also integrate the control system of the new equipment into that of the generating station.

With this new contract, Abengoa strengthens its position as regards the execution of airport works, given its vast experience at airports such as that of Madrid where it installed the energy system for the CE-1 and CE-2 power stations; Alicante airport, where it installed approach beaconing systems and constructed a power substation; Las Palmas de Gran Canaria airport, where it installed new emergency generating sets; and Palma de Majorca airport, where it executed the electricity installations for the new Terminal Building and the enlargement of the control center.

Abengoa is a technology company that applies innovative solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructures, environment and energy sectors. It is a listed company with treasury stock in excess of 2,004 million euro (17/10/2006) and is present in more that seventy countries, where it operates with its five Business Units; Solar, Bioenergy, Environmental Services, Information Technologies, and Industrial Engineering and Construction.
