Abengoa will install the electricity supply systems for a new railway line in Mexico

June 1, 2006

Seville, June 1, 2006. - Instalaciones Inabensa, an Abeinsa company, which in turn is the holding company of Abengoa’s Industrial Engineering and Construction Business unit, has been awarded a contract to execute the electricity supply systems and the installation of the catenary on more than 27 kilometers of track that will connect the Mexican provinces of Buenavista and Cuautitlan, in the western region of Mexico F.D.

The implementation of this railway service is the first step towards the creation of a 240 kilometer railway network. Estimates are that more than 320,000 passengers will use the train on a daily basis and that some 20,000 vehicles per day will cease to circulate as a direct result of the train system.

Abengoa will execute, for the Spanish company Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF), the energy supply system for the new Mexican railway line, which includes the supply of a single circuit catenary system, two power substations for the towns of Buenavista and Cuautitlan; auxiliary substations and the construction of the 23 kV MV distribution line; and the energy remote command system. In addition, it will extend the transport service for the 21 kilometers that join the Mexican provinces of Cuautitlan and Huehuetoca, and Lecheria and Jaltocan, and the 10 kilometers that separate the provinces of San Rafael and Tacaba.

According to Abeinsa’s Chairman, Adolfo Gonzalez Dominguez, “this new contract strengthens our position in Latin America, a geographical area that is currently responsible for more than 20 percent of our sales, and also consolidates our activities in the railway sector and more precisely, our suburban railway activities”.

Abengoa’s presence in Mexico has been noteworthy since it established itself there more than twenty-five years ago and it continues to be one of the main transmission line and power substation electromechanical works integrator companies in the Latin American country. Of note among the most important contracts it has signed in Mexico are those for the construction of the Baja California Sur II Diesel-fired Power Plant, or the remodeling of the Emilio Portes Gil Thermal Power Plant.

Abengoa is a technological company that applies innovative solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructures, environment and energy sectors. It is a listed company with treasury stock of 1,927 million euro (31/05/2006) and is present in more than seventy countries in which it operates with its five Business Units: Solar, Bioenergy, Environmental Services, Information Technologies, and Industrial Engineering and Construction.
