Abengoa presents the municipal district of Sanlucar la Mayor's Solar Platform to the Local Authorities

April 21, 2006

Seville, April 22, 2006. Solúcar Energía S.A., the holding company of Abengoa’s Solar Business Unit, has presented the Sanlucar la Mayor Solar Platform to the town’s local authorities. The objective thereof is the execution of different solar energy generating projects up to an output of 300 MW. Following the presentation made by Pedro Robles, managing director of Solúcar Energía and project chief, the municipal authorities were given a guided tour the different plants.

With this Solar Platform, Abengoa has installed, in the municipal district of Sanlucar la Mayor, the largest complex in the world dedicated to the production of solar energy destined for the public supply network. The project is a contribution to the economic and social development of the area that will attract significant investments and will result in the creation of employment, around 1,350 jobs, for those living in the vicinity. The overall investment in the projects is estimated at around 1,200 million euro throughout their different phases.

Over the next eight years, nine plants that will utilize different technologies will be installed, and these will be globally capable of producing sufficient electricity to power 180,000 homes, which is equivalent to the city of Seville.

Work commenced back in 2004 on the construction of the first two plants which are scheduled to be brought into operation in the second half of 2006. These are the 11 MW “PS10” plant, a tower technology thermoelectric plant, the first in the world to be built specifically for commercial operation, and the 1.2 MW “Sevilla PV” low concentration photovoltaic plant. Between both, they will generate sufficient energy to power 7,000 homes.

The Sanlucar la Mayor Solar Platform will be completed with another seven plants that are currently at the promotion stage and which will eventually bring the overall output up to 302 MW. The first of these plants will be the “PS20”, a 20 MW tower technology plant on which construction will commence around mid-2006.

Abengoa is thereby putting its trust in solar energy for electricity production purposes, as part of its general contribution to sustainable development and conservation of the environment – the projects will prevent the discharge into the atmosphere of 700,000 tons of CO2 a year while also protecting natural resources.

Solucar’s activity focuses on the design, promotion, financing, construction and operation of electric energy generating plants, utilizing the sun as their primary energy source. It possesses the know-how and technology required for solar thermoelectric power plants: central receiver systems, parabolic-cylinder and parabolic dish collector, as well as solar photovoltaic power plants, with and without concentration.

Abengoa is a technological company that applies innovative solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructure, environment and energy sectors. It is a listed company with treasury stock of 2,232.79 (20/04/2006) million euro, and is present in more than seventy countries, where it operates with its five Business Units; Solar, Bioenergy, Environmental Services, Information Technologies, and Industrial Engineering and Construction.
