Madrid, January 12, 2006 - Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT company, has signed a contract for more than 780,000 euro with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) of Mexico, to modernize the system technology infrastructure for the Temascal region hydroelectric power plant, located in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.
Under this project, Telvent will supply and install a control system for the electricity generators, with an output of more than 350 megawatts, which supply electricity for a population of more than 300,000 in the states of Veracruz and Oaxaca. With its technological solution Hycos (Hydraulic Control Open System) Telvent will automate the hydraulic power plant, in order to modernize the operational system that controls the hydroelectric energy generating process.
According to Telvent´s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Manuel Sanchez Ortega, “This new project in Mexico consolidates our presence in the Generating Sector. The prime objective is to modernize this region’s hydraulic power plant installations and to improve Mexico’s overall hydraulic resources, by collaborating in the use and exploitation of water as a renewable energy source, while enabling the reduction of carbon dioxide contamination in this country."
The system is based on Telvent’s technology platform for real-time data acquisition, control and management (OASyS DNA) and will include its industry leading PLC field device solution (Saitel2000DP), which will ensure enhanced data availability and operating efficiency.
Other Telvent projects completed in the electricity generating sector in Mexico include three thermoelectric plants in the states of Querétaro, Sonora and Tamaulipas, and three internal combustion plants in Baja California Sur, with a combined contract value exceeding four and a half million euro. The referenced plants supply electricity for a population of more than 2,000,000.
Since 1990, Telvent has had permanent offices in Mexico where it has developed system automation and information management projects in the Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment sectors.
