Madrid, December 28, 2005 – Telvent (NASDAQ TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, has been selected by the City of Salem Electric Department to upgrade their existing Distribution Management System (DMS) with the latest Telvent technology platform (OASyS DNA).
Telvent’s business relationship with the Salem Electric Department spans over 20 years. This positive history coupled with Telvent’s ability to provide the City with a robust information management system with low operational costs made Telvent a natural choice when it came time for the City to upgrade its DMS.
According to Telvent's chairman and chief executive officer, Manuel Sánchez Ortega, “Telvent’s OASyS DNA system will enable Salem’s distribution utility staff to capture important information about their own distribution network in order to better design and manage the network's power and automation assets.” The system will provide visualization of network connectivity, as well as values of all system state variables (voltages, power flows, temperatures, etc.), allowing staff to make informed decisions and ultimately improving operational efficiency.
The City of Salem, Virginia owns and operates its own electricity distribution system. The Electric Department serves over 13,000 residential and commercial customers and presently operates and maintains 7 substations and one transmission switching station. The transmission system consists of a network of approximately 20 miles of lines that tie the substations together and to the four tie points with the AEP system. The distribution system originates at the 7 substations and consists of about 160 miles of overhead and 30 miles of underground distribution.
Telvent (Nasdaq: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, specializes in high value-added solutions in four specific industry sectors (Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment) in Europe, North America, Latin America, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Middle East and Africa. (www.telvent.com).
