Inabensa to reinforce Morocco´s national power line network

October 11, 2005

Seville, October 11 2005. Instalaciones Inabensa, a subsidiary of Abeinsa, the parent company of Abengoa’s Industrial Engineering and Construction Business Unit, has been awarded a contract by the Moroccan national electricity company, Office National de l’Électrité (ONE), to reinforce the national network’s 400 kV lines and to execute the connection of the 400 and 225 kV lines to the Mediouna, in the north of the country, and Qualili, to the northeast, electricity substations. The contract value is 19 million euro.

The execution period of this turnkey project, funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), is eighteen months. Abeinsa will execute the civil works, survey, supply, erection, entry to the electricity substations, stringing, tests and commissioning of a large part of the national power lines and the connections to the afore-mentioned substations.

According to Abeinsa’s Chairman, Alfonso Gonzalez, “this project will be the largest Inabensa has ever executed in Morocco, and at the same time, it consolidates our company as one of the leading companies at national level in this sector”.

Inabensa has already executed other far-reaching projects in Morocco such as that of medium and low voltage rural electrification under the Global Rural Electrification Program (PERG) the Office National de l’Électricité (ONE) has been developing since 1996, and the completion of which is scheduled for 2007. In addition, Inabensa actively participated with the Office National de l’Électricité in the construction and reinforcement project for an electricity evacuation line from the Step hydraulic power plant. Likewise, Inabensa was awarded packages for sewerage works, pumping stations, power and telephone lines under the Saidía Mediterranean Tourist Resort Project, which is part of the ambitious project known as Plan Azur, launched by the Moroccan government with the aim of attracting some ten million tourists by the year 2010.

Abeinsa, the parent company of Abengoa's Industrial Engineering and Construction Business Unit, focuses its activity on engineering, construction and maintenance of electrical and mechanical infrastructures and instrumentation in the energy, industry, transport and services sectors. In addition, its activity extends to the promotion, construction and operation of industrial and conventional energy plants (cogeneration and combined cycle), renewable energies (bioethanol, biomass, wind, solar and geothermal), and turnkey telecommunications networks and projects (www.abeinsa.com).

Abengoa, an industrial and technology company listed on the Spanish Stock Exchange, with a capitalization in excess of 1.200 million euro, provides solutions for Sustainable Development, the Information and Knowledge Society, and the Creation of Infrastructures.
