Madrid, October 6, 2005 – Telvent GIT S.A. (NASDAQ: TLVT), the Global Real-Time IT Company, has been chosen by Spain’s Ministry of Public Administration to construct and implement its corporate validation and electronic signature platform in order to make the agency’s administrative functions more secure. This new platform will enable users to electronically carry out a variety of activities including filing of tax statements, bank transactions and billing, while ensuring maximum effectiveness in user authentication.
In addition, Telvent will provide technological assistance for this new electronic signature initiative, and the future electronic ID initiative to be implemented in Spain early in 2006. The digital signature system consists of private and public keys that enable identification of the person who has signed the document and ensures the authenticity of the signature. The digital signature is created with data that is known only to the signing party, thereby preventing the possibility of identity theft. Once the document has been signed, it cannot be modified during transmission.
Telvent will develop the solution with its Ti-Signs leading edge in-house technology, which includes advanced applications for the validation of electronic certificates from the Digital Certification Authorities operating in Spain, and also those that provide their services in the European Union, that assure the signature belongs to the user in question and not to anyone else. The system will be installed initially in Telvent’s Data Center, in Alcobendas, Madrid, which will enable platform connectivity with the rest of the Spanish public administration.
According to Telvent´s chairman and chief executive officer, Manuel Sanchez Ortega, “This new electronic signature implementation project consolidates Telvent’s position as the leading provider of technological services for Spanish public administrations. It ensures that the Ministry of Public Administration, under its Public Administration Technological Modernization Plan – Conecta – will possess interoperability with other market services providers.”
Prior to commencement of the project, the Spanish Ministry of Public Administration carried out a thorough analysis of its current and future electronic signature needs, and of the integration model with the future electronic ID initiative, and then compared them with the different alternatives available on the market. Upon completion of the analysis, the Ministry of Public Administration opted for Telvent’s technological platform as it covered all its needs.
