Richard Rogers will design the Palmas Altas Technological Center, Abengoa´s future headquarters in Seville

September 14, 2005

Seville, September 14, 2005. Abengoa has finalized its International Competition for Ideas from Architects for the Palmas Altas Technological Center. The winning design proposal for what will be the company’s future headquarters in the capital city of Seville was presented by the team lead by Richard Rogers, world leader in sustainability, energy efficiency, business parks and institutional headquarters. The projects executed by this firm of architects include the Pompidou Center, in Paris, the European Human Rights Tribunal Building, in Strasburg, and the Chiswick Park Business Center, in London.

The winning team is formed by three firms of architects: the London-based Richard Rogers Partnership, the Madrid-based Vidal Asociados Arquitectos, and the Seville-based Juan Fernandez Carbonell, together with the Ingeniería Arup team.

The following prestigious firms of architects were also chosen to compete in the final phase of the competition:

The Gabriel Allende firm, Madrid
The Carlos Lamela firm, Madrid and CHS, Seville
The Rafael de la Hoz firm, Madrid

The objective of the competition has been to create an innovative and ultramodern headquarters for Abengoa, where all the company’s activities in the capital city of Seville will be brought together. In the selection process, Abengoa has been able to choose from among the best alternatives available within the potential national and international markets thanks to the presentation of ideas from architects’ competition method that was utilized, for which a total of 47 study proposals were received. The competition rules impinged especially on the architects’ program, and on the environmental, sustainability, energy efficiency and cost requirements, in a competitive atmosphere that favored Abengoa obtaining the best possible conditions.

The selection of the Richard Rogers Partnership is an important demonstration of Abengoa’s commitment to the project and to the city of Seville, as it incorporates one of the most important international firms for the execution of a project that is genuinely identified with technology, the environment, energy efficiency and sustainability: a clear example of the excellence transmitted and generated by Abengoa in these fields.

Abengoa, a listed industrial and technology company with treasury stock of more than 657 million euro (31/12/2005), provides solutions for Sustainable Development, the Information and Knowledge Society, and the Creation of Infrastructures.
