Madrid, August 24, 2005 – Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, has been selected by the Energía Mayakán consortium to expand its information management and pipeline control systems for the Phase II Development Project in Mexico. Energía Mayakán’s 700 kilometer gas distribution pipeline transports natural gas from Ciudad Pemex in the state of Tabasco to industrial customers in the Yucatan Peninsula. The consortium is expanding its pipeline system by adding a second compressor station and a delivery station in Valladolid. This expansion requires Telvent to install additional monitoring and control stations, upgrade a third party leak detection model as well as the satellite communications delivered during Phase I in 1999.
“The flexibility of Telvent’s technology was important for Energía Mayakán and is an important advantage that allows us to provide solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients. Telvent’s technology was selected for the original pipeline system based on the customer’s requirements for a fully functional, field proven solution that encompassed state of the art technology, and which could be expanded as future requirements dictated. The increased system capacity will help Energía Mayakán meet the increasing demand for energy with an uninterrupted and secure supply” said Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Telvent Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
The Energía Mayakán natural gas pipeline was the first in Mexico to be privately constructed, financed, and operated. Telvent was initially contracted to provide a system that would monitor and control the flow of gas, as well as transmit data to the main control center and adjacent processing plant.
Because of its modularity, Telvent’s OASyS SCADA system will meet the project’s upgrade requirements to expand the system’s reach, re-assign control at its various stations, integrate with the leak detection model, and add a new, dual-redundant satellite communications infrastructure, one of the first of its kind. As operational and security requirements have also increased, Telvent will install an operational backup site, which can assume control over the entire system when necessary.
The Energía Mayakán consortium is owned by Gaz de France and PSG International (a joint venture between GE Capital Structured Finance Group and Bechtel Enterprises Holdings, Inc.).
Telvent (NASDAQ - TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, specializes in high value-added solutions in four specific industrial sectors (Energy, Traffic, Transport, and Environment) in Europe, North America, Latin America, and China. (www.telvent.com).
