Madrid, August 22, 2005 — Telvent (NASDAQ TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, has been awarded a contract by Endesa Generación for the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the renewal of the telecontrol remote control equipment park. The equipment to be installed is designed to collect data and communicate information to the electrical substation facilities monitored from the Montearenas offices of Endesa Generación, located in the Ponferrada area in Leon, and attached to the northeast hydraulic production area.
Telvent’s remote telecontrol equipment will capture data from and control 18 of the 49 hydroelectric and thermal energy generating facilities, and will also control the regulation of voltages and outputs of the generating units. The management of the catchment basins belonging to the Northeast Hydraulic Production Business Unit will also be enabled. This project is the first phase of a global program aimed at the renewal of the 49 above mentioned Endesa Generación facilities.
To carry out the project, Telvent will provide its in-house high performance telecontrol technology, its Saitel 2000DP technological solution. Communications between the field equipment and the Montearenas control center will utilize Wisp + protocol, and additional connectivity using IEC-60870-101 protocol for any future renewal of the area control center will also be available for use. The fully operational PLC remote control equipment will communicate with the Siemens control systems installed in the hydraulic power plants by means of Profibus FMS protocol, and with the dam teleauscultation equipment by Modbus RTU protocol.
Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Telvent’s chairman, commented, “The system is designed to offer safety levels that assure a high degree of reliability, availability and security while also ensuring ease of handling and operation.”
The first shipment of equipment will be dispatched towards the middle of September 2005, with installation and commissioning commencing in mid-October of the same year. The objective is to complete the installation and commissioning test phase for all the equipment prior to year-end.
Telvent has already been awarded a significant number of energy industry projects by Endesa Distribución during the first quarter of 2005, which includes the items highlighted below. Telvent will upgrade the south area electric distribution network managed by Endesa Distribución’s subsidiary, Sevillana Endesa. In addition, Telvent will provide engineering, configuration and commissioning services for the Substation Integrated Control Systems which will increase network reliability and control levels, while enabling enhanced reaction capabilities in the event of a system disruption. The Telvent-applied methodology enables work planning to be rationalized and enhances the level of collaboration between the electricity company and technology providers such as Telvent.
